2011 Auditions

Auditions will be held Tuesday OR Thursday evenings,     April 26 OR 28th, 2011, in the Ashbrook School Theater at 6:30pm.

Open to anyone, ages 9 (finishing 3rd grade) through high school.  You do not need to attend both nights.

Friday, April 29th, will be "call backs" in case we'd like to see certain combinations of actors together ~ keep the date free (but we haven't needed this yet)!

Come in comfortable clothes and closed-toed shoes, ready to have some fun!  You'll be put in groups to learn a quick dance step, then will sing on stage and read aloud from short sections of the script.  Please practice a song to sing ~ this can be anything, but preferably a selection from a musical.

We are looking for eager, fun, talented participants ~ for your enthusiasm, cooperation, on-stage presence, voice quality, ensemble attitude.  We want people who will work and play hard to make YOUR camp and YOUR shows a total success!

Question - What if I've never been on stage?  Absolutely no problem!  Everyone has to start somewhere and we warmly welcome ALL experience levels.  We'd love to be your debut theater experience!

Question - Am I automatically in the camp if I audition?  Sorry, no.  We will post the camp participants on this website on Sunday evening, May 1st, after auditions.  If you are not selected there may still be a place for you in the camp, perhaps helping back-stage or as Historic Personages to welcome the incoming "citizens" for the performances.  You can indicate if you are interested in these alternatives when you come to Auditions.

Question - How long do auditions last?  When should I arrive?  We'll get started right at 6:30, and after filling out some paperwork we get groups started learning the dance, and from there onto stage.  But we can't watch and listen to every person at the same time, and we want everyone to have the same opportunity, so it does take some time.  Usually everyone's been done by about 8:30 each night.  So, you don't have to be there right at 6:30, but please do come before 8:00.

Question - Can my parents watch?  Do they have to?  That's totally up to them (and you).  Parents are more than welcome to sit quietly in the audience, but we encourage them to cheer appreciatively after each and every song.

Question - How do I know if I should go to Call Backs?  We'll make phone calls and email messages to anyone we'd like to have attend Friday night.  It's easy: if we don't contact you, you don't need to go!  Call Backs allow the Directors to see how select groups interact or sing together.  Often we can tell enough from Auditions, but sometimes we need that extra time.

Question - Can I read the script ahead of time?  Sure! There will be a few copies available (but not until spring ~ we're still fine-tuning!) for over-night check-out.  Email me =  (director@adventuresinacting.com) and reserve one to enjoy.  You can pick it up at my house (NE part of town, near Wilson School).

Question - Won't the older kids get all the good roles?  We created this musical because we know we must have a fabulous script that offers many fun, interesting, and important roles for ALL ages.  Nothing is "pre-set" so all roles are open for everyone.  There are numerous juicy singing and speaking parts ~ and costuming ideas are wonderful!

Question - How do know what role I am?  The participant list will be posted on this website on Sunday evening after auditions = May 2nd.  Many parts will be assigned at that time, but some parts may not be listed until later, even waiting until we get going in June to see how your talents best fit the roles.

Question - What do I do once I'm selected as a Camp Participant?  Jump up and down! Cheer with excitement!  But after those celebrations it's time for some business ... Three things to do:

1. Email Beth Riley (director@adventuresinacting.com) right away to confirm you will be in the camp (or to let us know you've discovered it won't work for you this year ... how sad!).  That's very important so we can let others join the fun if there are spaces available.

2. Mark your calendar for the Mandatory Meeting of all Cast Members = Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 6:30pm.  We'll meet in the Ashbrook School Theater to get acquainted, go over basics, complete registration forms, collect payments, take costume measurements ... and give out scripts and music CDs!

3. Mark your calendar for all the Camp Dates and Performances!

We hope to see you ALL at Auditions ... can't wait for April!

"Break a Leg!"
