Wild & Wacky Wednesday and Thrilling Thursday!
TOMORROW IS OUR SHOW!!!!! I hope you're as excited as I am - but still able to function and sleep and rest and rehearse, of course! Remember "vocal health"!! (water, H20, water, more H2O, sleep, good food, water, gentle voices, water and more water)
Rehearsal on Wednesday was "tech day" where we practiced using all the cool props. We stopped many times and you handled the disruptions to our flow with aplomb! (check that word!)
Thursday was our first "Dress" Rehearsal - - and we actually got "dressed"! The costumes look splendid; it really is a Kaleidoscope of vibrant colors!
Tonight take care of yourselves, read it all through, practice, practice, and REST! (water, water! Squawk!)
FRIDAY - regular camp with our second "dress" rehearsal, and a pre-school audience which always is exciting! THEN . . . Return at 6:30pm for our 7:30 curtain. The show will be less than two hours, so you should be able to leave about 9:30 and get some SLEEP!
SATURDAY - no camp. Matinee at 2:00 means you need to be here (when?) . . . at 1:00. We'll be done about 3 and you leave, eat, rest, rejuvenate for our FINAL SHOW -- be here at 6:30 again for the 7:30 show. Afterwards we clean up costumes/dressing rooms and T H E N there are posters to sign and a cast-party (with awards!) to enjoy! And cake!!
SUNDAY - STRIKE THE SET! Starting at 10:00 we'll gather to take apart the set pieces, store props, re-paint the stage, clean hallways and everything else. With many hands it takes a short time - and you get a yummy pizza lunch and ice cream!! Join the fun - the SS Kaleidoscope way! :-)
You are each and all doing such a fantastic job - the teamwork, compassion, expression, risk-taking and collaboration we've seen this week is astounding. You are a class act, and this show WILL be fabulous!
See you Friday!

Marvelous (?) Monday and Tremendous (!) Tuesday!
Monday's highlights were some fabulous characterizations (you looked like your characters because you acted like your characters!) And you must have read thoroughly and slept avidly on/with your scripts, because entrances and line pick-ups were MUCH improved on Tuesday. Hooray!!
The BYOPP (picnic party) was a super success; thanks to everyone who came and participated! The "brain dance" and "evolution" game were such FUN with parents included!!
Then today, Tuesday, was a splendid day! We worked hard on the second act, and then our run-through was delightful. Yes, we need to review lines and cues and sequences, but it's coming together - it's coming together!! :-)
Wednesday we'll break-out to various "work sessions" (what needs attention for YOU?), then practice a few sections together (Icicle of India & Living the Life come to mind as possibles), and we're off on another run-through. Unlikely to be in costume, likely to be using all props. Ah, such excitement!!
Cruisin', Cruisin', We have got a great show! Cruisin', Cruisin', You're the best - oh yes, we know!
Smiles, Beth

Fantastic Friday gives way to Stupendous Saturday!
Yesterday was Amaize-ing! We worked and worked and blocked and blocked, and all your focus and energy paid off on Saturday!!
Today was the FIRST run-through, and it was SUPERB!!!!!!! No train wrecks! You were IN on entrances, IN on songs, IN on picking up lines quickly, IN on dances - - it makes me so happy!
Seriously, it was great! :-)
Now, there is (are?) lots (lots!) more to do, to fix and to polish, but we have a solid and marvelous foundation. Hooray! Your job is to rest and relax, eat healthy foods, sleep, read through the script for the overall flow and "where am I now?" focus.
Monday we'll work on some big and small areas, then start our second "go through." FUN! Then Monday evening is our familial unit BYOPP here at Ashbrook. Join us at 6:00 out back!
NEEDS =
* We would love to decorate the show's finale with oodles of little lights, so if you can unearth Holiday/Christmas tiny lights (the ones that don't get hot) that we could use, that'd be wonderful. Thanks!
* Costumes - Clovers need white leggings under green shorts, - Clue Crew need dark jeans, - Please everyone avoid white socks unless it's appropriate for your character. - Shoes ... most of you should wear something comfortable and dark, a few have special items. We'll check more into this next week, but be thinking... - We might need a few more baseball caps (they will be altered, so you might not want them back...)
If you can help out, that's marvy, even if you won't wear the items! Thanks!!
Please check out the amazing photos that Miss Isabella Medina has been taking (she's sooooo good!), and thank you for wearing your shirts for the "bio" photos!
This camp/year is going so well, thank you each for your hard work, focus, energy, great senses of humor and willingness to try new things - WHEE!!!!!!
Now to out and promote and publicize ~ a show this good deserves to have full-houses to perform for!
Smiles, Beth & Staff

Thrilling Thursday!
Oh, my goodness, that Evolution game was a HOOT! From eggs to chickens to volociraptors to mummies to ninjas to ... Elvis??? to slimy amoebas??? You are a fun, fun bunch!
We wound our way through clever Clue Crew songs, marched around Icicles of India, not-watched "Not on My Watch" and stomped!!!! our new STOMP song! What percussion! What percussive reverberations! What responsive singings ~ very, very exciting stuff!
Thanks so much to the "colors" who were able to stay after this afternoon to work on the Waltz song. More changes are underway . . . for now, stay cool and don't work too hard to memorize the "current" plan... Flexibility. Yup, more flexibility! Trust us - we're working hard to make sure YOU and YOUR show are total successes!
Notes = 1. Bio Questions went home today, and are due back on Saturday, please. Many thanks!
2. Bio Pictures will be taken of performers in your blue HiJinx t-shirts. If your picture was not taken today, please wear your shirt either Friday or Saturday and be sure we get your smiling face onto Isabella's camera. :-)
3. Camp Portrait - our "everybody's in" photo will be taken next TUESDAY, so be sure to wear that blue HiJinx shirt on TUESDAY. That's the day after Monday, ... TUESDAY.
4. Some campers will be venturing to the Corvallis Farmers' Market on Saturday morning to do some specialized publicity ~ this was a major success last year, plus oodles of fun. IF your character is going, you will receive a permission slip on Friday which must be signed and returned (you knew that, didn't you!) for you to join our expedition.
5. PICNIC! YeeHah! Our BYOPP is set for next MONDAY, June 28th, from 6:00-8:00pm in the field/playground behind Ashbrook School. It's always a fun & entertaining evening, so we hope all families can join us. (and Chef Willy is NOT cooking, ... I hope ... I'm pretty sure ...)
:-)
That's all folks ~ get some yummy, healthy food, relax, sleep and be ready for tomorrow and Saturday!
YOU ROCK!!!

Wonderful Wednesday!
Whee! We've been through almost the whole play (well, not sequentially, but in bits and bites, snips and snippets - what fun!) Everyone is focused, energetic and flexible - fabulous traits for a successful theater camp!
Tomorrow we can look forward to a "new" version of the Stomp Song, "On a Ship Like This." Betty is figuring out how to maneuver it into a more energetic rap-style-stomp! Ah, that flexibility comes to the fore, hooray!
Thank you, Color Characters and Officer Crew, for adjusting your schedules so that you can remain at camp longer Thursday afternoon. We'll have an extra session from 2:15 - 3:30.
A newsletter went home today (bright orange), including details of some costume/prop needs. One item we neglected = we need a couple pairs of surf shorts! (think back to Wipeout!).
Update on our PICNIC!!! Be sure to save next Monday evening, 6-8pm, for our annual family celebration. This year we'll enjoy each other's company right here at Ashbrook. It's a BYOPP (Bring Your Own Picnic Picnic) where you provide your own main food, blankets, silverware, etc., and AIA supplies some yummy dessert, some crazy entertainment, and we'll all join in a wild theater-game -- hopefully it will be lovely weather!
Happy Wednesday evening!

Day Two was Terrific!
The opening scenes have been blocked (now to remember just where you were supposed to be and go!), we practiced a bunch of songs, learned more dance moves - and had a blast!!!
Maybe your favorite highlight was seeing "Elvis" descend to the wild acclamations of the throng of passengers and crew - - or maybe it was hitting just the right harmony in our THREE PART singing! - - or maybe it was getting the dancing down for one of the songs. Whatever YOUR highlight was, we hope you enjoy remembering it!
Tonight's assignment = read the script through with blocking in mind (where was I then?? how did I get there??), and trying to say all your lines accurately without using the script. You can do it! :-)
We'll see you bright and bushy-tailed tomorrow morning!
Hooray for HiJinx!

Monday!
What a fabulous start to our voyage on the SS Kaleidoscope! Thank you for coming so wonderfully prepared, rested and ready to roll!
We sang, we danced, we blocked and we enjoyed hearing our own voices (instead of that crazy "learn me" CD!). The opening song is pretty well flushed out, and we ran-lines through almost the whole show. Check out the amazing pictures Isabella took and has posted on the website = FUN!!!!!!!!
For Tuesday - - be ready to practice Icicle of India, What a Beauty, the opening chat-scenes, the lead-in to Where Were You Last Night (go Elvis!), and ... well, you never know, really! Plans are made to be revised, and this IS live theater after all! :-)
SOLOISTS - practice!!! Betty and Michael will be visiting with you tomorrow and Wednesday to be sure all is well ~ be ready!
ANYONE ON STAGE - practice as though you ARE on stage = s l o w i t d o w n . enunciate. project. emote. facial expressions. body expressions. What is YOUR character doing/thinking/wanting/reacting to at each moment???
Anyone in the camp or related to anyone in the camp or passing by anyone in the camp . . . PROMOTE THE SHOW!!! Tickets are on sale at Gracewinds Music, and you will want to invite everyone because this will be a phenomenal show - - Kick off your July 4th Weekend with HiJinx! :-)
AHA - there's more to this stage-thing than just being there, isn't there!
So, for tonight - - eat, sleep, practice, and play!! So you'll be ready for our play tomorrow and beyond.
Smiles - Beth and crew!
