"Wipeout!"
Book by Flip Kobler & Cindy Marcus
Music and Lyrics by Bill Francoeur
Produced by special arrangement with
Pioneer Drama Service, Inc., Englewood, Colorado
Surf’s up, dude!Spread out your blanket, wax up your board, and claim your favorite spot on the sand – it’s another sunny day at Avalon Beach! But there’s a cloud on that free-spirited horizon, when Mom and Pop must turn the kids’ hotspot into a developer’s paradise – a parking lot.But pushy developers won’t stop these kids; they come up with a whale of a plan to “Save the Shack” and keep on surfin’.The competition seems a sure thing, with Riptide riding his board, but – what’s this? Sabotage? – will the Avalon Kids be able to triumph? (Sure they will, but you’ve got to see how!)
So come catch some rays, hula at the luau, grab your board and Hang Ten with this zany musical comedy that will have you laughing, cheering and eager to head to the beach! We’re sure it won’t be a “Wipeout!” show!
“Wipeout!”
Cast List 2009
Cowabunga,
Surfers – it’s time to catch your wave to a summer springboard of theatrical
excitement!
Yet again you have
demonstrated your singing, dancing and reading abilities in a most magnificent
manner, making this casting selection one of the most difficult we’ve had.
There’s good news and
there’s not-so-good news. The good: there were almost 70 people
who auditioned to be in this year's camp, representing fifteen area
schools! The not so good: unfortunately that’s more than our camp can
accommodate. Therefore we are not able to offer everyone a part. If
your name is not on this list, we apologize and please do come back
and audition next year! (Note: If you auditioned and were not
selected, but are interested to be considered should openings become available,
please email the director before May 15.)
The list is organized
alphabetically by last name, with roles that have been assigned so far.
You’ll notice that there are some shared roles – this is because we’re trying
to give everyone a speaking role (you are WAY too talented a group!!), and
there just aren't musicals with great songs, great plots, and about 50 juicy
speaking roles. (Who
wants to become a playwright??) Meanwhile, we've already conjured up some pretty
fabulous ideas on how to make each/half/ensemble of you shine! This will
be WILD!! In addition there are still some speaking/solo/surfing parts
which remain to be cast during the camp, plus there are many, many
chances for us to create our own lines and even scenes. I’m envisioning a
beach-chair-brigade style dance-off competition between the “beaches.”
Doesn’t THAT sound like fun!
There are oodles of
chances to be on stage, regardless of your part. For example, everyone is
in the opening scene, “It’s Always 90 Degrees on Avalon Beach,” plus “Wipeout!”
before intermission, and the finale – of course. Beyond that, it will
depend on which “beach” your character allies with, and however else we swap
you around! Flexibility and Fun are our middle names -- you will love
it! This is yet another super musical where there are “no bad parts”
because everyone is on stage a lot, and the smaller roles / choruses have
great jokes, songs or characters. What fun we will have!
